
You have to be a bit of a risk taker to launch a new business, no matter the environment. My biggest risk was launching my business in December 2019 and deciding to keep making a go of it when the pandemic hit a couple of months later-switching my whole business plan from in-person coaching to remote training brought out its problems. Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts. Being morbidly obese gives me a unique perspective and insight on helping people most personal trainers and coaches have been fit and healthy their entire lives, but I have not. I offer personal training, nutrition, and life and wellness coaching. I specialize in helping others improve their overall wellness. Also, having been morbidly obese for a large portion of my adult life led to a large amount of imposter syndrome.Īlright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business.

Before the Crossfit, I didn’t train much, to be honest, I practically didn’t. Now I weigh 79 kilograms, which is definitely more than before, but it’s not just fat, but muscle mass, which I gained while doing a Crossfit. Many people also believe that having bariatric is the “easy” way of losing, and fighting that misconception is very difficult. Crossfit kicked me in the ass so that I could work on myself. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?īeing 40, starting a new business while working a full-time job and raising two kids is a challenge for time management. I’ve done almost every diet and fad out there, and now I started Viking Personalized Wellness to help others achieve their goals, whether getting fit, losing weight, or no matter their goals. I went with him when he opened his new gym and got my certification as an L1 CrossFit Coach, CrossFit Nutrition, and another nutrition certification from Precision Nutrition.

There, I discovered a newfound passion for health and fitness with the help and encouragement of one of the coaches, I went out and earned my certification as a CPT (Certified Personal Trainer), CNC (Certified Nutrition Coach), and WLS (Weight Loss Specialist) from NASM. As I lost weight, I noticed that I was losing strength and endurance, so I joined a CrossFit gym once I got to my goal weight. In December of that year, I had gastric sleeve surgery to assist with weight loss. In 2016 I was over 500lbs, a couch potato, and unable to keep up with my two-year-old son.
